Welcome to the VWH Riding Club



We are a long established friendly club with members  from all   around the Cirencester, Malmesbury and Swindon area.

As a club we cater for all levels of rider, from those who just want to have fun with their horse, new combinations starting their training, through to people competing their horses at any level.

We are affiliated to British Riding Clubs, within Area 9, which enables members to compete in qualifiers of all equestrian disciplines and the chance to qualify for national championships at all levels.We hold regular clinics, residential camps and training days with a variety of instructors to suit all abilities and welcome new members to come and join the fun!

Area 9 Combined Training - Entries Open!

This event will this year be held at Hartpury College, so both Dressage and Show Jumping will be on a surface as it is at the Championships at Aston Le Walls. Saturday 21st October with classes from Prelim dressage with 75cm Show Jumping and Novice Dressage with 85cm Show jumping.

National Championship Success

On Saturday 2nd September our 90cm Show Jumping team who were victorious at the qualifier in July headed to Lincoln for the National Championships. Becky riding Boris, Jude riding Benji, Vanessa riding Fred and Sharon riding Western Loder all had a brilliant day to finish a fantastic 5th. 

Jude and Benji also competed as an individual in the Elementary Dressage and Novice Riding test doing brilliantly to finish 8th and 9th respectively.

Huge thank you to Judith Wilson who travelled up to Lincoln to be our team volunteer for the day so the team could compete. 

Area 9 Eventers Challenge - Entries Closed.

The Festival of the Horse Eventers Challenge will be held at Leyland Court Equestrian Centre on 1st October. The competition involves teams of four or individuals, completing a round of show jumps and straight out on to cross country. Classes at 80cm, 90cm and 1m. We have entered one 80cm and one 90cm team.

Autumn VWH Residential Camp

We are once again heading to Stockland Lovell Manor Equestrian Centre near Bridgewater from Sunday 24th September - Wednesday 27th September.

We have two fabulous instructors - Polly Williamson and Jon Evans, this means we can accommodate more members and we would like to encourage members to join us.

Stockland Lovell provides excellent facilities for all disciplines, an american barn for the horses and new accommodation for us this season. Groups are tailored to ability and ambitions so there are groups for all levels.

Full cost for six lessons, horse accommodation (including shavings, hay and haylage) human accommodation (cabins) secure tack room and all your super yummy meals is £340.

Places can be secured with £100 deposit and full payment by 3rd September.

Area 9 Horse Trials 

The Area 9 Horse Trials will took place at West Wilts Equestrian Centre on Sunday 2nd July and was a hugely busy, fun and successful day for the VWH RC.

We entered five teams - two in the 80cm, two in the 90cm and one 100cm. Alongside our entries, the club also ran the Cross Country Start Team so a huge turn out for the club and fantastic team spirit all around.

Our 90cm and 1m teams both finished 2nd, whilst our two 80cm teams finished 5th and 7th, with individual 2nd for Rosie Bathurst, 3rd for Kerry Alexander, 6th for Penny Hall :-)

Huge thank you to every-one who volunteered to help man the start team so that all our teams could compete and to Lynda King for organising all the entries and team managing. 

Area 9 Summer Show Jumping 

To be held at Leyland Court on Sunday 16th July at Leyland Court Equestrian Centre, on grass

With classes from 70cm - 1.10m there is something for every-one. Full details are on the VWH Teams page of the website with who to contact and how to enter.

Area 9 Summer Dressage Qualifier

Held at Rabson Manor on Sunday 14th May

With Classes from Prelim to Advanced Medium, to include Pairs and Riding Tests there is something for every-one!

A very busy and long day for the VWH but well worth it. Our first two prelim teams rode from 9am and our final Medium competitor finished at almost 4pm. 

Our Prelim teams fininshed 2nd and 5th, whilst our Pairs - Jo and Megan Won! The Open team and Riding tests teams also finished 2nd, whilst Patricia Haskins Won the Medium with Juliet finishing 4th. With lots of fantastic individual results and yet another great picnic it was lovely to be joined by some new members and members experiencing qualifiers for the first time.

Area 9 Combined Training Qualifier

To be held at Rabson Manor on Easter Monday 17th April. Prelim Dressage with Show Jumping at 75cm and Novice Dressage with Show Jumping at 85cm. 

Another great day for the VWH with a super picnic. Our three teams finished 3rd, 5th and 6th out of 26 teams in the competition! This means that Penny Hall, Penny King, Lynda King and and Jude Matthews are off to Aston Le Walls on the 21st May for the National Championships. We also had individual placings too. A Win for Penny Hall, 2nd for Lynda, 3rd for Jude, 4th Fiona Russell-Brown and 5th for Annitta.  Thank you to every-one who competed and those that came to support and for Lynda for organising the teams.

Spring Training Day

Sunday 30th April at New Barn Farm, Chedworth with Trainer Cassie Price. A grey day was had by all and somehow we dodged the rain. Groups began with Flat work with poles in the School, followed by Show Jumping on Grass before a fabulous picnic lunch in Penny Kings lorry. After lunch groups headed out onto the Cross Country and fun was had by all. Thank you very much to Cassie and to all the members that made the day such a success.


Thank you to every-one who came to the AGM in Cirencester on Wednesday 15th March, a fun evening with good food was had by all. We said thank you and goodbye to Annitta Engel and Zoe Gell from the Committee and welcomed Sarah Maddern and Becky Scammell in their places.

The Hackpen Points Cup was won by Patricia Haskins and the VWH ROR Cup was won by Becky Scammell.

The club finished 2016 with a fantastic 74 members, a financial surplus thanks to every-ones great efforts at the Horse Trials and The Winter Dressage and the VWH RC being represented by members at every BRC Championship held.

Thank you to every-one who made 2016 such a success for the VWH RC and here's to a great 2017. 

Area 9 Intermediate Senior Winter Dressage  

Sunday 19th February, at Leyland Court Equestrian Centre, Bristol. Our team finished a respectable 12th with individual 5th for Rachel Tippins. Patricia Haskins defended her title to Win the Medium again this year and Jude Matthews finished 5th. Huge thank you to all those who braved the cooled to compete and to Jo Thornton for team managing.

Area 9 Senior Winter Dressage 

The Area 9 Winter Novice Dressage was once again held at Summerhouse Equestrian Centre on Saturday 12th November and once again the VWH did a fabulous job of organising. A huge thank you goes to all the members that volunteered on the day to make it such a success, and help raise funds for the club for 2017.

Our VWH Team also had a good day finishing 11th out of 24 teams - well done ladies.

Area 9 Winter Novice and Intermediate Show Jumping

Sunday 23rd October at Hartpury College, Gloucester

The Novice competition was team only, best three scores to count and two rounds - 80cm and 85cm. We entered two teams. The VWH Lions - Penny, Nia, Megan and Sarah finished 2nd, whilst Ness and Fred were crowned Indivdual Novice Champions. The Intermediate competition is team and individual, again with two rounds this year a new height 90cm and 95cm, we entered just the one team - Gill, Cassie, Emma and Lynda and they Won!.

Our Intermediate Team are off to the BRC National Championships at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre on Saturday 28th April - Best of luck ladies!
