Winter Intermediate Show Jumping Championships
Our Intermediate team - Pip, Cassie, Mariana and Kerry, headed to Bury Farm on Friday 29th April ready to compete on Saturday 30th April. Having secured an amazing camping spot, settled ponies and walked the course, a cosy fun evening was spent in Kerry's lorry. With every-one up early a full day of competition awaited them. The first round produced four great rounds and a team score of zero. Over lunch the new course was revealed and heck did it go up!! A valiant effort by all still sadly meant no team score but Kerry and Cassie rode brilliantly to complete their rounds. Lots of fun, great company and super team work made the weekend a great success! Huge thank you to Robert, Jo and Harry are amazing team supporters and volunteers.
Spring Training Day
Following the success of these days in the past we were lucky enough to secure Richard Waygood for our spring training day, held at Rabson Manor on Sunday 1st May. With show jumping in the morning and cross country in the afternoon followed by the traditional VWH picnic a great day was had by all.
Winter Novice Show Jumping - Championship Success
Our Senior Novice Show Jumping Team - Judith, Angela, Penny and Fiona did brilliantly on Saturday 9th April at Keysoe to finish 8th out of 30 teams at the National Championships!
With a very long drive, some incredibly early starts our team pulled together and had a superb weekend at Keysoe. Over a stiff up to height course they did brilliantly to finish on team score of 12 faults. Well done all!
A huge thank you goes to Fiona Russell-Brown for being their team volunteer to allow them to compete.
Saturday 30th April see's our Intermediate Show Jumping team compete at their Championships at Bury Farm, along side Patricia Haskins in the Medium Dressage.
Sunday 17th April at Tumpy Green Equestrian Centre, Dursley
After the event was almost cancelled due to Rabson Manor being under water, Wessex Gold Riding club did a superb job to move venues at the last minute to still host the qualifier, the sun came out and a fabulous day was had by all.
The Lions team - Pip, Jude, Fiona S and Penny finished a very close 2nd just sneaking a championship qualification over Berkeley after a team tie, then and all four horses to count tie, and when all four dressage scores were counted the VWH luckily came out on top. Congratulations ladies, with Individual 2nd For Jude, 3rd for Penny, 5th for Fiona and 7th for Pip.
The Tigers team's highest placed member was Caroline Turrell on Pheonix making their club debut finishing 8th, Heston was put back on the naughty step (don't ask), and we also welcomed Kerry, Becky and Katie to the teams. In some testing conditions the VWH ladies produced some lovely dressage tests and competitive rounds of jumping.
A fabulous pic-nic was enjoyed by all and great team support was enjoyed by all - thank you for a super day!
Area Horse Trials 2016
Cross Country Start Team Volunteers Required Please :-)
Once again this year Area 9 will be running the Horse Trials at West Wilts Equestrian Centre, as a Club to aid the running of the event the VWH have been asked to organise the Cross Country Start Team for the event.
For it to run as smoothly as possible I need at least six lovely willing volunteers to help on Saturday 9th July, we shall need ring stewards, tack checkers, starters and time keepers. Full training will be given, a prime location for watching the action and a day long VWH pic-nic.
If you are able to help out on the day please contact Pip Taylor 07971249418 to be welcomed onto the team.
Winter Intermediate Dressage 2016
Held at Leyland Court Equestrian Centre on Sunday 28th February.
With an individual Medium competition and a team competition requiring riders at Prelim, Novice and Elementary level there was something for every-one and having entered two teams and one individual medium entry a great day was had by all.
The new surface at Leyland Court was fantastic and we had some great results. Sarah McMurray finished 6th individual in Novice D10, Jude Matthews 2nd individual in the Novice 30, and Mariana Gaussen 4th in the same test, whilst Patricia Haskins rode brilliantly at the end of the day to win the Medium Individual competition so will be off to the Championships with our Intermediate Show Jumping Team.

2016 Qualifier Dates
All the 2016 riding club qualifier dates have now been published. Full details can be found on the VWH Teams page.
As a club we are part of Area 9 within the National British Riding Clubs set up. For each equestrian discipline Area qualifiers (between all the local clubs in our area) are held and the winners of each competition are then eligible for the National Championships.
This is a great opportunity to compete at official events, be part of a team, meet other members and have some fun and a good pic-nic. Any VWH members who wish to have a go at a qualifier are most welcome, we aim to have teams for the super competitive and for those who just want to have a go. In addition the majority of competitions allow individual entries if you don't want to be part of a team, so its something for every-one.
Please contact the designated team manager for each event if you want to have a go.
British Hat Standards 2016
Incase you haven't already heard the British Standard BSEN 1384 is being withdrawn and hats with only this safety standard will not be allowed in competition and more importantly after discussing with BRC HQ insurers won't cover you in a fall or incident with a hat of only this standard as of 1st January 2016.
New Hat guidelines and an explanation behind the changes can be found on our British Riding Clubs page.
